Jonathan was born in Flint, Michigan and grew up on a farm in a wonderful rural area. His father was both a pastor and elementary school principal; his mother was an elementary school teacher. He attended Chesaning Union High School, a very small school, where he participated in sports, band and scholastic activities.
After high school, Jonathan attended Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, completing his bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He worked as head waiter at one of the nicer restaurants in town while finishing his degree program in only two and half years.
When he graduated, Jonathan moved to Oklahoma to seek opportunities. Jobs were scarce, and even with a college degree, Jonathan took a job at McDonald’s in Okmulgee working as assistant manager. Jonathan got a position as a UPS driver and Teamster for a couple of years before his hard work and exceptional work ethic paid off with a promotion to management.
Jonathan enrolled in law school at Tulsa University while still employed full time with UPS. A week into law school Jonathan had the opportunity to switch shifts at UPS and started working from 2:00 a.m. until noon. He also worked at the office of the Tulsa County District Attorney from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. He would attend law classes from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. During the last two years of law school, Jonathan worked at UPS airport operations, running one of two shifts.
When Jonathan graduated from Tulsa University Law School, UPS assigned him to the corporate legal department in Atlanta, Georgia. Again, Jonathan’s work ethic earned him the position of heading up Oklahoma Workers Compensation Division and a return to Tulsa. In August of 1995, Jonathan left UPS and founded Sutton and Associates, P.C.
Jonathan has been actively involved in giving back to the community through various volunteer efforts and work. He worked for years with Neighbor for Neighbor in legal clinics. He has done pro bono work for John 3:16, helping scores of needy persons with a variety of issues. Jonathan went with the first Team Relief trip to Long Beach, Mississippi to assist the Hurricane Katrina victims.
